Supporting Ukraine: UK alignment with the EU and response to Trump
The events in the Oval Office last Friday have left us all staggering, upset and angry. Trump and Vance sat and openly bullied a freely elected President of another country, one which had been invaded by Russia and subjected to 3 years of military aggression in which tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been injured or killed. Trump accused Ukraine of being the obstacle to peace and accusing Zelensky of “gambling with world war three”. Subsequently, US military aid and intelligence sharing have been paused.
How should the UK respond? How far should we abandon the Brexit tropes and closely re-align with the EU? And how far can Starmer go with his balancing of the EU/USA relationship?
We are delighted to be joined by a Ukrainian citizen, currently living in Holmfirth. They will talk to us about their feelings on what is currently happening, and we will then have a discussion.
